History of the School:
Atomic Energy Central School, Manuguru came into existence on 17th July1984 with the commencement of classes in the Primary School on 19th July, in the same year. It was headed by the Vice -Principal, Shri V.S.R.Murthy. The staff comprised nine in all- 05 primary teachers, 01 office staff and 03 MTS. Of the 05 primary teachers, one was a regular teacher, 03 were appointed on ad-hoc basis and one, a volunteer teacher, Mrs Nalini Mulugund.
The school was operational in the building constructed exclusively for it. As the school building did not have an auditorium, the ‘open air theatre’ in the colony located near the old B-Type Quarters was used to conduct the annual day and other school programmes.
The open space beside the school building was used as the playground for the children. The school library came into existence much later. The school subscribed to The Hindu newspaper which was delivered one day late.
Classes VI,VII and VIII were inducted in the academic session of 1985-86 with 147 students and 18 faculty members- 12 PRTs and 06 TGTs, a PET, an Electrical gadget teacher and a junior Librarian.
In the academic session of 1986-87, Class-IX was begun and the students’ strength rose to 282.
In the following year’s session, 1987-88, the first batch of Class-X appeared for their CBSE board exams. 08 students appeared for the examination, scoring a 100% pass percentage.
The year also saw the inauguration of the Secondary School building, a little distance away, on 15th August 1988. The strength of the school at this point was 344 with 28 staff members. Since 1988, the secondary school building has been actively engaged in the teaching and learning process.
In the academic year 1989-90, the first batch of Class-XII, science stream, appeared for their AISSSE.
By 1993-94, the school strength rose to 1150. 58 teaching staff and 09 non teaching staff rendered their services. In the academic year 1995-96 the school got affiliated to the Board of Intermediate Education, Andhra Pradesh for its Junior and Senior Intermediate classes.
With the students’ strength mounting- crossing 1500 in the year 1998, the second floor was added to the secondary school building. Well equipped laboratories–Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Computer, have since then become hubs of learning.
The Dept of Computers is well equipped with over 25 computers for the use by students.
The Preparatory classes were set up in the year 2001 and continue to cater to the educational needs of the tiny tots of the HWP (M) employees.
During the academic year 1999-2000, the students’ strength peaked with a total of 1640 students having enrolled and a team of 71 teachers catered to the teaching –learning process aided by 17 non- teaching staff.
AECS, Manuguru has been evolving in tune with the changing requirements of CBSE, AEES, and HWP (M). As this is a school catering to the needs of an industrial unit, (HWP (M)), the intake is variable. Due to fall in strength in school going children the primary school could be accommodated in the secondary school campus. The entire school now runs under one roof.
The high school auditorium is the focal point of many activities-academic and co curricular- that are transacted year long. In the year 2018-19, HWP (M) provided the school auditorium with 10 Air Conditioners; this has made the auditorium, hitherto a hot and humid place, an extremely comfortable one for students to partake in activities.
The Library of the school boasts of a sizeable collection of academic and non academic books for children. The Physical Education room is equipped with a mini Gym. The school playground has a well set 400 metres track and the ground is ideal for playing games like hockey and football. The school has two well laid basketball courts. The School Science Park was set up in the year 2017-18.
The school precinct is skirted by greenery and flanked by trees making it an ideal place for teaching and learning.
To sum up, the school has all the features-complete infrastructure, modern amenities, well trained staff and a conducive ambience- which are the pre-requisite for any school to be considered a model school.
